Quadratic Equations - Exercise 5 - Completing The Square

Supply the justification of each step to Complete the Square and solve the quadratic 3x2 - 5x - 2 = 0.

STATEMENT JUSTIFICATION
3x2 - 5x - 2 = 0

3x2 - 5x = 2
Isolate x-squared and x-terms.

x2 - (5/3)x = 2/3
Divide both sides by leading coefficient.

x2 - (5/3)x  + 25/36 = 2/3 + 25/36
Add the square of half the coefficient on x.

(x - 5/6)2 = 49/36

x - 5/6 = +/-7/6

x = 5/6 +/- 7/6
